Happy IWD 2021 👩🏽👧🏻👩🏾‍🦱🧑 Happy IWD 2021 👩🏽👧🏻👩🏾‍🦱🧑🏻‍🦰👵🏼🧕🏾👱🏼‍♀️
Last year I posted this in celebration of IWD 2020 and tagged some of my favourite inspiring women friends - this year I’m so happy to say that the amount of wonderful inspiring creative productive women I know has soared and it could never be limited to just those 20 tags that Instagram will allow!

But if you’re a woman in my life (or on Instagram!) thank you for being you and celebrate yourself because you deserve it. It never fails to inspire me when you express yourself and show up as proudly authentically you 👏🏻

There are so many amazing women in my life but there’s always room for more. Please feel free to tag the women that inspire you in the comments. Whether they’re inspiring many or just you! 🙌🏼 ✨
Are you a hat person? Surprisingly Poppy doesn’t Are you a hat person? Surprisingly Poppy doesn’t seem to mind wearing a scrunchie hat - but I have NEVER been a fan. Anyway I’m not here today to talk to you about my rocky relationship with hats (I don’t like a sweaty head) but rather my relationship with all of those hypothetical ‘hats’ I’ve been having to wear recently (yes this is going somewhere it’s not just a rant about hats) 🧢

I feel like I’ve had so many hats to wear recently that I can struggle to switch them out. In my hat box there are lots of different hats to be worn and switched around. At my day job I’ve been asked to cover different departments and take on different responsibilities all on top of the usual multiple hats I have to wear just related to the everyday of the job. In my business I am (and have always been) CEO, marketing manager, podcast editor, content writer, accountant etc. And then there are those extra hats of life, the good friend hat, the lets finally clean the house hat, the hat of going to the supermarket and all those other responsibilities that we have to take on. They all add up in the hat box 📦

It’s a lot of hats. Especially for someone who has a tentative relationship with them 🥴

I’ve started to notice that when I get overwhelmed I’ve been piling hats on top of each other and wearing 3 or 4 at a time and let’s be honest you’re going to look a bit weird and your head is going to be ridiculously hot. In plain and simple terms if you start piling too many responsibilities on top of you it’s going to lead to burn out 😰

So how do we stop it? Well quite simply we can plan what hats we’re going to wear when. When we get intentional with our time we know what hat we will wear when and while we’re wearing one we don’t need to think about that other one waiting in the hat box because we already know when we’re going to wear it. We don’t need to panic and throw it on top of the other one. All the hats will have their time because we’ve planned it. No more sweaty heads 🙅🏼‍♀️

Have I gone too far with this weird hat metaphor? 😂 Do you relate to trying to wear too many hats at once? 👒🎩🎓🧢
Happy Tuesday! Yesterday the last episode of Seaso Happy Tuesday! Yesterday the last episode of Season 1 of the Creative Productive podcast went live yesterday 🥳

And it was a special one - an interview with my sister Rhiannon @thedailyboyle who is an amazing writer and recently had a play on actual radio 4!!! 😱 (do you see the family resemblance 👀)

We had a wonderful chat about using your creativity as a career and in your day to day to help you express your feelings as well as the importance for kids to express their creativity! And of course with everything she has on we touched on productivity including how deadlines can help push us to get stuff done! ✅

I hope you enjoy this last episode, it was an absolute joy to record and don’t worry because the creative productive podcast will be back for season 2 in April 🙌🏼

It dawned on me this week how I really haven’t b It dawned on me this week how I really haven’t been resting as much as I should have. Not that I’ve been zooming round doing things but rather I haven’t given myself a rest from the mental toll of trying to be as productive and proactive as possible

And the silly thing is taking the time to actually rest is productive because you’re giving your overwhelmed little brain the chance to refresh and then start generating new ideas with a new burst of productive energy ✨

It can be hard but to feel guilty when we aren’t working or doing things that might traditionally look productive, especially now the lines are so blurred for a lot of us who are working at home

But remember to be productive you have to rest - get that quality brain power instead of exhausting yourself by trying to do a big quantity of stuff!

Also thanks to @acornishgeekletters for this great prompt for #lettersinmystyle 👏🏻
What do you do to have a full on switch off? For m What do you do to have a full on switch off? For me it’s getting into a bath and getting lost in a book 📖 my phone stays OUT ❌ and I can literally stay in that bath until I’m shrivelled up like a happy little raisin

I definitely feel like I’ve been struggling this lockdown with some business boundaries and making the conscious effort to switch off - I was working tonight until after 9 🤦🏼‍♀️ not that I was particularly getting anything big done just kind of pottering about fiddling with things and sending emails which could have easily waited!

And lo and behold when I was trying to think creatively and plan out some content I felt like all my creativity had just dried up 😟

But of course it had! My poor little brain hasn’t had any time to recharge and regenerate all those creative ideas - and your brain needs that time to relax just as much as you do

So this weekend I’m making a VOW - from Saturday afternoon I’ll be switching off and deleting Instagram and NOT working. You will find me bathing, reading, learning how to crochet and doing walks

Are you struggling with switching off? Share in the comments if you relate 😫
(Also highly recommend this book / my 3rd reading)
Look at this lovely creative soul with her pantone Look at this lovely creative soul with her pantone colours and tea! This is Mary who runs the @coloursofsheffield project and is my penultimate interviewee for series one of the Creative Productive Podcast! 🎙

I love how Mary will try her hand at almost any creative project (pottery, embroidery, paper cutting etc) as well as running her side business Colours of Sheffield and working full time as a caseworker 🤯

We had a great chat all about the importance of creativity and prodcutivity to our identities and that innate need to be creative that we often experience! Here we go time to talk in a bit more detail bout Here we go time to talk in a bit more detail bout the second style of free mentoring call I’m offering for Galentines Day - the ‘Get me out of my creative rut’ call! 📞

Something I’ve realised is that we often know what we need to do to boost our mood and feel more like ourselves - sit down and do something creative. But for some reason we can still really struggle with it! 😖

There are a lot of reasons we might be experiencing a creative block that stops us from getting started from just experiencing a lack of motivation to perfectionism paralysing us. But those blocks don’t have to keep stopping us and when we realise why they’re there we can start to move past them and experience more creativity, self expression and fulfilment ✨

One way to do that with some support is by using a mentor (-cough- me -cough-) who can discuss what’ holding you back, offer a different perspective and encourage you to think differently about a problem as well as providing a big boost of motivation inspiration and enthusiasm! 😉

My feedback from clients tells me that my enthusiasm is one of the things they really loved about my approach so if you want some o’this enthusiasm you know what to do! Get that application in on February 13th (TOMORROW) and I’ll enthusiastic you up! 🙌🏼

Will you be going for this call over the planning clinc? Let me know in the comments! 😁
Finally had a chance to get on board with @acornis Finally had a chance to get on board with @acornishgeekletters #lettersinmystyle challenge - and of course I had to use this quote!

A lot of our creative ability is based on our self belief of what we can do - NOT our artistic skill - self belief is just so important to everything we do - I actually can’t say it enough so thank you Emma @acornishgeek for choosing this fab quote and inspiring everyone to get creative with their lettering 🙌🏼
